JNV Selection Test 2026 notification is out for admission in to 6th class

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are co-educational, residential schools established by the Government of India managed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti which focus on providing quality education for brilliant children from rural areas of the country.

JNVs are located in 27 States and 8 Union Territories. Eligible Students can get admission to Class VI by cracking the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST), which will occur in two phases for the academic year 2026-27.

Why the JNVs are so famous. Here are the reasons every talented rural child must apply for the said admission test. They

  • Serve as a destination to enhance the overall quality of school education in districts.

Exam dates of JNVST 2026

The JNVST for Class VI will take place in two phases:

How to Apply:

You can apply online at the official portal.

The last date to apply online is 29.07.2025

The following documents are needed in (JPG, 10–100 KB) format before applying:

  • Candidate’s photo
  • Signature of candidate
  • Signature of the parent
  • Aadhaar card of the child or residence certificate of the Parent
  • Caste certificate/OBC

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be enrolled in Class V in the same district for the 2025-26 academic year.
  • Age: Born between 01-05-2014 and 31-07-2016 (inclusive).
  • Should not have taken the JNVST earlier.
  • Must show proof of residence in the district.

Additional criteria for rural candidates:

  • At least three years of education (Classes III–V) in a rural area school.

For urban candidates:

  • Attending even one day of school in an urban area qualifies the candidate as urban.

Transgender candidates are included under the boys category; no separate reservation exists.

Documents Required After Selection

  • Birth certificate
  • Aadhaar card
  • Residence certificate
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC)
  • Disability certificate (if applicable)
  • Rural area study certificate
  • Certificate from the Head Master for study details
  • Medical fitness certificate
  • Undertaking for migration

The Transfer Certificate (TC) must be submitted only after document verification.

Pattern of the Navodaya Test:

Duration of the test: 2 hours (11:30 AM to 1:30 PM)

Total: 80 questions, 100 marks.

There is no negative marking. You earn 1.25 marks for each correct answer.

Candidates with disabilities get an extra 40 minutes.

Medium of Examination

JNVST is conducted in regional languages depending on the State/UT. For instance:

  • Andhra Pradesh: Hindi, English, Telugu, Urdu, etc.
  • Assam: Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, etc.
  • Maharashtra: Marathi, Urdu, Kannada, etc.

The test booklet will be provided in the language chosen during the application. Changing the language later is not allowed.

Test Highlights & Tips

MAT checks reasoning with figures, series, analogies, and more.

Arithmetic tests basic math skills (operations, factors, measurement).

The language test includes passages with comprehension questions.

You must meet the minimum qualifying marks in each section.

Results & Admission

Results are expected in:

  • March 2026 for summer-bound JNVs
  • May 2026 for winter-bound JNVs

Results will be displayed on:

  • JNV notice boards
  • District Magistrate/DEO offices
  • NVS website

Two waitlists may be released.

The admission process closes by 31st December 2026.
